ABSTRACT

In India Mass Drug Administration (MDA) drive is undertaken every year. In mass drug administra?on DEC and Albendazole combina?on is used. For the strategy to be effec?ve, more than 85% of those living in endemic areas must be covered by MDA. Methods: This is a cross-sec?onal study in which family clusters were selected from rural and urban areas. Informa?on about coverage, compliance with MDA and knowledge of filariasis was obtained using a ques?onnaire. Data were analysed using percentages and propor?ons. Results: In this study, about 92.51% of the study par?cipants received DEC and ABZ tablets during MDA, of which 95.14 % of par?cipants consumed the drugs. The most common cause of noncompliance was fear of side effects. Conclusion: Coverage of the popula?on with DEC and albendazole combina?on was good but compliance needs to be improved. IEC ac?vi?es should be intensified. Local leaders should be involved in the programme to increase compliance.

ABSTRACT

Secondary metabolite, longissiminone A [1] was isolated from a lichen, Usnea longissima. It was screened for its' in vivo anti-inflammatroy and anti-platelet aggregation activities. Compound 1 showed moderate in vivo anti-inflammatory activity as well as moderately active against the aggregation induced by arachidonic acid at different doses

ABSTRACT

Anti-glycation and alpha-glucosidase inhibition activities of microbial transformed compounds of dydrogesterone [1]; 20R-hydroxy-9 beta,10 alpha-pregna-4,6-diene-3-one [2], 17 beta-hydroxy-9 beta,10 alpha-androsta-4,6-diene-3-one [3] and 9 beta,10 alpha- androsta-4,6-diene-3,17-dione [4] were evaluated. Compounds 1 and 4 showed potent alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activities, while 2 and 3 were found to be weak inhibitors, whereas anti-glycation activities of 1-4 were not observed

ABSTRACT

To compare the color stability of heat cure acrylic resin after immersion in distilled water and denture cleansers. In-vitro experimental study. Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences, Dow University of Health Sciences and Al-Karam Textiles, Karachi, from January to April 2012. Seventy two rectangular shaped specimens; 18 specimens were measured at baseline [control group] of the study [0 day], 18 specimens were immersed in distilled water. Eighteen [18] in Fittydent denture cleanser tablets for 10 minutes and eighteen [18] in Dentipur denture cleanser tablets for 10 minutes. Specimens were polished and stored in istilled water for 24 hours prior to experiment. After 60 days of immersion, the specimens were tested for color changes with spectrophotometer. SPSS 16 was used for statistical analysis. There was statistically significant difference in the color change [delta E] among all groups [p < 0.001] after 60 days of immersion. At baseline [0 day], trace amount of color change was observed whereas when specimens were immersed in Fittydent denture cleansers tablets for 60 days noticeable change in color was observed. Very slight change in color was bserved when specimens were immersed in distilled water and dentipur denture cleanser solution. The color stability of denture base acrylic resin was influenced by the type of denture cleansers used
